STOP SETTLING IN 2010

This will be my last post in 2009. Thank you so much for allowing me to explore my writing with all of you this year. In 2010, I'll be writing my first book, so I'll be posting more poetry on my blog. If any of you have any topics you'd like me to address in my book, please don't hesitate to contribute your ideas. For now I will leave you with the following thoughts to take you into the New Year....

During this time, as we ring in the New Year, many of us begin to make changes or “resolutions” to help us get closer to this envisioned ideal of your Ultimate Self. You can see yourself so vividly; where you want to be, what you will have achieved, who is standing next to you sharing these experiences, and so on. Some of us make lists of goals and changes we will implement, to achieve this ideal. Very often, we start the New Year like a steam engine, racing towards these goals, but along the way something happens, and many of these goals take the back burner. The question is: What happens? You begin to wonder: “What’s wrong with me? Am I lazy? Do I just not believe in myself? Maybe I just don’t have what it takes, because this track can seem pretty scary at times.”

I want you to think for a second of what you want, not what is “safe” or “more feasible”, but what you really want… I mean really go deep inside and ask yourself, “What have I dreamed of for so long?” Do you see your career taking off? Finally finding that One person you can build with that understands and accepts you? Maybe you see yourself finding happiness?, Finally accepting yourself as you are? , Learning to do what YOU want and not what other people want? Whatever you are feeling right now, OWN THOSE DESIRES, CLAIM THEM AS YOURS. This is your True Self speaking to you, saying “Hey YOU, this is what YOU want. Stop ignoring what you already know”.

Once you can see what you want, think of how LONG you have wanted these things to manifest. How long have you been putting these off to the side? What are you using to Distract you from getting to where you want to be? How have you been occupying your time, instead of moving towards what you really want? When you do this, you will find something that many people may find hard to accept and that is: THE ONLY PERSON THAT CAN STOP YOU FROM GETTING TO WHERE YOU WANT TO BE IS YOU.

So how does this happen? This happens when you SETTLE. You settle when you get comfortable in a particular situation that feels “safe”. You get that job that pays the bills, so you stop being as hungry to achieve your dreams. You find a partner that gives you a little bit of what you want, so you give up what you really want in a partner, just because of the security you feel knowing someone is there. STOP TRYING TO FIT A SQUARE INTO A CIRCLE. If a person or situation is not what you DESERVE, then so be it. Stop trying to convince yourself otherwise. Stop making excuses for yourself and others. STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF. DON’T SETTLE. DON’T ALTER YOUR STANDARDS, because the only person you are hurting is yourself. DEEP INSIDE, YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DESERVE.

When you Settle, you carry an uneasy feeling inside of you. It’s with you when you wake up everyday and when you try to fall asleep everynight. Your Awareness feels that something isn’t right. Something is missing, but you just can’t pinpoint what it is. Honestly, this is what it feels like when you aren’t being TRUE TO YOURSELF. When you don’t KEEP IT REAL WITH YOURSELF, you start to not like yourself very much. You don’t like to be alone with yourself and your thoughts, so you start to create ways to avoid facing the TRUTH. This is where addictions come in: drugs, alcohol, shopping, eating, gambling, random sex, etc. All these things done in EXCESS, rather than MODERATION, are ways people try to run away from the reality they have created and before long they feel the same way they did before: Empty, Lost, and Confused.

I don’t share this with you so you feel bad about yourself. I don’t want you to beat yourself up. I write this so that you can STEP OUTSIDE OF YOURSELF FOR A MOMENT. Imagine that you are up on a mountain, looking down and observing yourself. Just watch yourself. What are you doing? IS THIS REALLY WHO YOU ARE? You know yourself, more than what you think you do…

This New Year’s, resolve to STOP SETTLING.

I have so many close friends that quit their high –salary corporate jobs, because they had a burning desire for creative freedom that was just too strong. I have friends who have ended friendships/relationships because they knew it wasn’t what was best for them. I have friends who’ve stayed single for so long, because they believe that God will bring them someone perfect for them when the time is right. What are you ACHING FOR? FACE YOUR BURNING DESIRES.

This New Year’s, affirm to STOP RUNNING AWAY FROM YOURSELF.

STOP OVERLOOKING THINGS WHICH ARE INDEED IMPORTANT TO YOU.

TAKE CHANCES, TAKE RISKS, THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.

2010 IS A TIME TO CLAIM WHAT IS ALREADY YOURS, TO KNOW NOTHING IS MISSING.

YOU WERE BORN WITH ALL THE TOOLS TO MANIFEST YOUR GREATEST DESIRES.

IT'S TIME TO BRAVELY STEP INTO YOUR TRUE SELF...

IN LOVE & TRUTH,

MARISOL

Thanks for this post! Sometimes I feel selfish for not settling with what is below what I think my worth is. I love everything you said, it makes sense. At the end of the day, you can't be a better person if you don't truly help yourself first. That isn't saying to be ignorant and oblivious of kindness, compassion and knowledge but better yourself to better the world.
